Rotterdam - As a BE Developer within our Freemium/Entertainment Area you will contribute to making sure our users get the highest quality features and an excellent user experience.
On a daily basis our content reaches millions of users, making DPG Media the biggest media house of The Netherlands and Belgium. We have built a white-label platform for web and app which serves our 2 biggest national news brands AD.nl and HLN.be, as well as 8 regional brands in the Netherlands and Belgium.

About the team
You will be part of a cross-functional and agile web development team that consists of 9 people from the Netherlands and Belgium. We speak Dutch to communicate with each other in the team and sometimes English with other teams. Our home base is our Rotterdam office - located right next to Rotterdam Central Station - and close to our editorial staff and other digital teams that work on this platform. Currently, we embrace a hybrid working model. We are one/two days per week in the office, the rest we work from home.

What you will be doing
Working with highly talented people, you'll deliver the best news product to our users. Because you're working in a huge landscape with advanced technologies, you will keep on learning every day. You will be working in a cloud based environment while always striving for the best code quality and applying security measures. Your main tasks are:

• Continuously develop and release new code to production within an Agile work environment

• "You build it, you run it"; meaning you will as a team, take full responsibility for delivering good working software and maintaining it.

• Continuously improve our services to make them more robust, scalable and reliable.

• Together with your peers, you define the software architecture of the services

• Sharing knowledge within our group of backend developers and together making sure our platform evolves continuously

Who you are:
You love learning new things and keep a close eye on technological evolutions. You are open-minded and critical with a no-nonsense approach: always looking for the 'why' of things. Also, you are passionate about IT and development, always focused on quality. What else we expect:

• At least 6 years of professional experience with Java, Spring and AWS. You should be familiar with CI/CD, Security best practices and designing REST API's.

• Practical experience with Java and/or Kotlin

• Experience with test automation, contract testing and test-driven development.

• You have a team-oriented Agile mindset and experience with Scrum and DevOps.

• You can work independently, but are never reluctant to ask for help or offer help to others. Reaching out to other teams or stakeholders comes natural to you.

• You are fluent in English and preferably speak Dutch on a professional level.
